M1-Woodward Avenue is a highway notably referred to as Detroit's Main Street and follows the route of the old Saginaw Trail that linked Detroit with Pontiac, and at the time, Flint and Saginaw.

Woodward Avenue was created after a devastating fire in 1805 and is one of five principal avenues in Detroit devised by Augustus B. Woodward as part of a street plan intended to make Detroit the Paris of the West, by emulating it’s wide avenues.

Woodward Avenue was the location of the first mile of concrete roadway in the entire country and in 1970, bore the M1 designation. Woodward Avenue is synonymous with cruising. As early as 1848, carriage drivers would race up and down Woodward Avenue after the roadway was converted from logs to planks.

By 1958, Woodward Avenue was the place to be for unofficial car racing and today continues to celebrate Detroit’s automotive history with a Dream Cruise, taking place during August of each year.

DWCs bookend my watch collection

In 2013, I heard about a new American watch company in Detroit. I looked it up and on the search, another Detroit based watch company popped up. I checked out that other site and was hooked by the beautiful and classy watch they were bringing out. I contacted the company and purchased the DWC 1701 Launch Model, #50 of 50. That was the first fancy watch I ever bought. I am retiring after 20+ years on active duty and I wanted to commemorate my service with a final fancy watch. What better way than with another gorgeous DWC. I love the graphite face, white sub-dials, and blue hands. That is a great combination and it is a classy watch to wear. Thanks, Peter, for building a great product. I will always recommend DWC to my friends and family looking to buy a great timepiece.

Stunning ONCE AGAIN !

My second purchase and once again total Perfection! Again, as I said about my 39mm 1701, it is so much nicer than so many watches costing quite a bit more from Europe and Asia. Incredible work. Absolutely love it !

M1-Chronograph is amazing

This watch is incredibly elegant and at once conveys both a “retro” and modern feel. The typeface of the numerals is spot-on: slight serifs on the numerals add a sophistication and “antique” quality to the dial, as does the stark, white railroad track minutes ring which in turn is punctuated by the circular, silver-ringed dots of lume at each hour. Of all the variations of the M-1, I suspect this is most striking on the graphite as the white numerals, indices and lume dots really pop off the surface. It really does look like meticulous chalk on an ancient blackboard, adding to the timelessness of the piece.
In a world where there are seemingly endless chronograph designs, there are arguably very few good ones. Thankfully, the M-1 is exceedingly good. Setting the face far below the surface of the crystal which itself is framed by the stepped rings of the case, the dial truly becomes the focal point. The chronograph dials are both white signaling their connection with each other and disassociating them from the function of the small black seconds dial. Stacking them vertically creates a horizontal symmetry that many three-dial chronographs lack, reinforced by the black seconds sub-dial that almost-but-doesn’t-quite-disappear into the graphite face.
The exhibition case is certainly worth the extra cost, as the decorated movement is simply gorgeous.
Overall the watch looks and wears as if it is MUCH more expensive than it is.
I'm very happy and would recommend DWC.
