Sent by Paris, France’s King Louis XIV, Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit was established as the first permanent French settlement and new center of fur trade and military power by French officer, Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac in 1701.

Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit was built along the Detroit River to protect the French fur trade from the British and was named in honor of Louis XIV’s minister of marine and colonies, Louis Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain.

Le Detroit, French for ‘the strait’ eventually came to identify Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit and the surrounding area and after 1751, was known simply as Fort Detroit.

Real quality watch. Wears well on the wrist and has a good weight. The service from the company is top notch. Keeps the best time of any automatic watch I own. Shine on DWC

Great Lakes GMT Diver - fantastic watch, incredible customer care

I just wanted to say thanks for the watch and the experience all around. Was purchased for me as an anniversary gift and is beautiful. The watch is rugged and I wear it for almost everything. Clasp edges are a little sharp but overall the watch is comfortable to wear and looks great. I had a minor issue with the watch about 6 months after purchase and the customer care and follow-up was nothing short of incredible. Really fast response (within minutes), great communication, and complete turnaround from the initial email to when I had the watch back in my hands was only about one week. The watch was returned not only working perfectly but case was cleaned and polished and in almost brand new condition. I would highly recommend anything from Detroit Watch Company based on my experience…high quality and truly unique. Thank you!

Quality

I have paid twice as much for watches half as nice as the Pontchartrain GMT. The quality is extremely impressive. The owner sent me numerous wrist shots in order to help my purchase decision. He did not have to do that.

Exceptional Watch

The Pontchartrain Great Lakes Edition Diver is a fantastic watch. The aesthetics are amazing - the blue dial is impressive as are other features such as the fleur de lis on the crown and the old English “D” on the second hand. Timekeeping has been excellent. The lume is a nice shade of blue and lasts well into the night after charging. Rather than starting super bright and rapidly diminishing, the Superluminova very gradually dims. I am a self-professed lume fanatic and am quite impressed.

I am a fan of the company and watch line generally given the focus on Detroit history. My wife purchased this watch to celebrate a personal achievement that was very much rooted in Detroit and the Great Lakes.

With regard to service- exceptional. Emailed the owner about a minor service issue late in the evening - received a reply within 6 minutes with quick resolution.

superb design and execution

This is my 3rd timepiece from DWC. The design is beautiful and elegant, and the build quality is on par with Swiss brand models costing 3 times as much. I tip my hat to Patrick Ayoub for his brilliant designs and the fit and finish of his timepieces. Long live the Detroit Watch Company!
