Sent by Paris, France’s King Louis XIV, Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit was established as the first permanent French settlement and new center of the fur trade and military power by French officer, Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac in 1701.
Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit was built along the Detroit River to protect the French fur trade from the British and was named in honor of Louis XIV’s minister of marine and colonies, Louis Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain.
Le Detroit, French for ‘the strait’ eventually came to identify Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit and the surrounding area and after 1751, was known simply as Fort Detroit.

Happened upon DWC after shopping for used watches. Was very fortunate to have come across DWC, the design, being from Detroit and the obvious quality it was an easy choice to purchase. As with buying used from online second hand dealers sometimes you have an issue, I contacted DWC and Patrick personally picked up, I talked thru the situation and sent it in. Even though I didn't purchase the watch from DWC he treated me like I was his first and best customer. The turn around time was 3 days including shipping door to door. I had a wedding coming up that weekend and simply mentioned it would be a miracle to have it back in time, I couldn't anticipate DWC would make it happen, I shipped on Wednesday and by Friday I was admiring my now fixed and what could pass as brand new watch. Patrick truly redefined customer satisfaction for me. The customer service is truly exceptional and the watch is as good! I'm a history buff so the 1701 collection is absolutely perfect for me. Once I received my watch back I immediately purchased my second watch....1701 LouisXIV exhibition, thinking M1 would look great in my collection. Patrick you turned me into a fanboy!
I purchased this watch as a christmas gift for my husband. It's a beautiful watch - looks even better in person! DWC should also be commended for their excellent customer service. My needed an additional link and they could not have made that process any easier!
