This watch is incredibly elegant and at once conveys both a “retro” and modern feel. The typeface of the numerals is spot-on: slight serifs on the numerals add a sophistication and “antique” quality to the dial, as does the stark, white railroad track minutes ring which in turn is punctuated by the circular, silver-ringed dots of lume at each hour. Of all the variations of the M-1, I suspect this is most striking on the graphite as the white numerals, indices and lume dots really pop off the surface. It really does look like meticulous chalk on an ancient blackboard, adding to the timelessness of the piece.
In a world where there are seemingly endless chronograph designs, there are arguably very few good ones. Thankfully, the M-1 is exceedingly good. Setting the face far below the surface of the crystal which itself is framed by the stepped rings of the case, the dial truly becomes the focal point. The chronograph dials are both white signaling their connection with each other and disassociating them from the function of the small black seconds dial. Stacking them vertically creates a horizontal symmetry that many three-dial chronographs lack, reinforced by the black seconds sub-dial that almost-but-doesn’t-quite-disappear into the graphite face.
The exhibition case is certainly worth the extra cost, as the decorated movement is simply gorgeous.
Overall the watch looks and wears as if it is MUCH more expensive than it is.
